9.B class students
Riga Pardaugava Primary School 9b. During ERASMUS + UP2B, the students of the
school played a real situation during the geography lessons, which was created
after a strong storm in the territory of Latvia. Storms and floods are the
biggest natural risks that may affect Latvia in the future due to climate change.
In the winter season of 2021/2022, several strong cyclones crossed the territory
of Latvia, which caused several storms. During the geography lessons, the
students got acquainted with the operation of cyclones, their characteristics
and watched a video about the damage caused by storms in Latvia.
After learning the theoretical material, the students played out a real
situation - a press conference after a strong storm. During the press conference,
9b class students took on the roles of representatives of various professions -
meteorologist, climatologist, historian, representative of the Latvian state
forests, insurer, journalists, conference leader, a resident of the
Ziepniekkalns area. Specialists provided information on the nature of the storm
and the damage caused, journalists asked questions, photographed and filmed what
was happening. The press conference was held in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
During the activity, students both strengthened their theoretical knowledge and
learned presentation and communication skills - to speak, ask questions and
answer them, to discuss, listen to others, accept it or object.
